In order to ensure that young children cannot gain unsupervised access to the pool area, all pools must be fenced and a gate or barrier must be provided with an approved release mechanism. The mechanism must be located at least 3″ from the top of the gate and at least 24″ from any wall or other obstruction. The gate or barrier must be located to prohibit climbing of permanent structures, equipment or similar objects. The gates and barrier must be constructed of materials that reasonably deter a young child from gaining unsupervised access to the pool area. The gates and barrier shall not be constructed with protrusions or indentations other than for normal construction tolerances and tooled masonry joints. They must be at least 48″ tall from the finished ground level measured on the side facing away from the pool. All gates and barriers must have openings within 18″ on either side of the release mechanism that do not allow passage of a 4″ sphere.
